2pac Real Tones

Tupac Amaru Shakur was born on June 16 1971 and died 25 years later, the victim of a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. Under his aliases 2pac and Makaveli, he left a rich legacy of gangster rap and is responsible for influencing many of the hip hop legends of today.

He first came to prominence with the release of his first album in 1991 2pocalyse Now which included the song Brenda's Got A Baby and followed it up with the more tightly produced Strickly For My N.I.G.G.A.Z in 1993. You can listen to the real tone Strickly For My N.I.G.G.A.Z on this site.

1995 saw the release of his third album - Me against The World, which included the prophetic single Death Around the Corner.

2Pac made history when he released in 1996 the first ever double rap album or rather first ever double rap album. Entitled All Eyez On Me the record spawned the classic songs I Aint Mad At Cha and the steady California Love with Dr Dre.

In May 2005, the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts was opened in Atlanta to provide a chance for disadvantaged teenagers to get a start in the arts world. In September 2005 a bronze statue was unveiled of 2pac immortalizing the figure who has become an inspiration for a generation.

He is currently the darling of the hip hop/rap generation with many artists and fans listening and being influenced by his legacy.

Some lyrics of 2pac

California...knows how to party
California...knows how to party
In the citaaay of L.A.
In the citaaay of good ol' Watts
In the citaaay, the city of Compton
We keep it rockin! We keep it rockin!

Those who wish to follow me (My ghetto gospel)
I welcome with my hands
And the red sun sinks at last into the hills of gold
And peace to this young warrior without the sound of guns (feat Elton John)

Quotes from 2pac

"I am not a Gangster and never have been. I'm not the thief who robs your wallet. I'm not the guy who jacks your car. I'm not down with the people who steal from and hurt others. I'm just a brother who fights back."

"My music is spiritual. It's like Negro spirituals except for the fact that I'm not saying 'We shall Overcome.' I'm saying that WE ARE OVERCOME!"

If 2pac was still alive today his real tone might be The Games' The Documentary, but definitely nothing by Jay Z
