Wham ringtones, real tones and true tones Wham! were a pop vocal duo formed by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley in the early 1980's. Michael was the songwriter and mastermind behind the pairing with Ridgeley merely playing guitar. They enjoyed early hits with Wham Rap, Young Guns and Bad Boys. Their Motown influenced white soul became the sound for their generation soon outselling contemporaries Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet.
Their debut album Fantastic peaked at No.4 in 1983. Three number ones followed in the form of Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Freedom and Last Christmas. Their second album Make It Big was also hugely successful and it was around this time George Michael began to concentrate on solo projects with Ridgeley increasingly living the pop star roll with a succession of beauties and driving a motor racing car. Michael had success with Careless Whisper in 1984 and was the main voice in Band Aid hit Do They Know It's Christmas. The group were the first western band to play in China leading to the contentious video Under Foreign Skies. With Michael increasingly unhappy with his record labels ties to South Africa the duo split in 1986 but not before having two more number ones with I'm Your Man and The Edge Of Heaven. Having won the Ivor Novello Songwriting Prize and appearing with Elton John at Live Aid Michael went solo in 1987 producing his album Faith. His story was just beginning. Ridgeley's was just ending.
In 1998 George Michael was arrested by undercover policemen for lewd behaviour in a public toilet while in 2006 he was arrested in London for possession of Class C drugs - probably weed. It all helps with sales of ringtones though!
