Akon Ringtones

With a silky smooth voice, an abundance of talent and a world famous jazz percussionist as his father you would have expected Akon - real name Aliaune Damala Ringtones Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam! - to have made a steady transition from teenager to the pop world. However things are never that simple. Bullied in his early years, Akon had to become tough. Tough and intelligent where he grew up equaled crime.

Luckily, he was caught at the age of 18 for grand theft auto and served one year of a three-year sentence. His experiences inside forced him to face up to some stark realities and on his release he was determined to do something with his life.

Having written many songs in prison, Akon set about setting them to music and the result was the release in 2004 of his first critically-acclaimed album Trouble.

Mixing hip-hop with traditional Senegalese rhythms his album and singles from it have made him into a world star overnight and the future looks bright for Akon and his ringtones!

In 2005 his Lonely reached number nine in the Springtones Ringtones Of The Year chart.

2006 will see the release of his second studio album Dark and Light Shadows as well Akon's debut in a film based on his life story.

Lyrics

"Visitation no longer comes by, seems like they forgot about me,
commissary is getting empty,
my cell mates getting food without me,
can't wait to get out and move forward with my life,
got a family that loves me and wants me to do right"
From Locked Up

"Hey ladies drop it down,
Just want to see you touch the ground;
Don't be shy girl go Banaza,
Shake ya body like a belly dancer!"

From Bananza Belly Dancer

Akon Quotes

"It's so crazy because in the beginning you feel like your life is over. But then after a while it starts to feel like home." - on life inside.

"After music hopefully there will be a chance to break into movies. Then you've got clothing lines and shoe lines to come. But once I've got enough money that's it for me." - in a non-megalomaniac manner.

"Each day felt like the longest in the world. You sleep, you wake up, you sleep, you wake up." - on prison (or was it school this time).

"I don't like to do songs all about relationships and love. That's for other people to do. I pretty much like to sing about things I see. I think music has more substance when you talk about the truth."
