James Blunt RingtonesBorn in a military hospital to a military family there was only one career for James Blunt - rock singer. Where he is now, however, one of the brightest singer-songwriters of this decade does hide some of his past. He followed a traditional route for old Harovians - sponsored by the army in his university studies and then a stint at the Officer's training college at Sandhurst. Next stop was Kosevo - where he was a captain in the United Nations peacekeeping force. Leaving the army in 2003 he began the next phase of his life. A trip to the States saw him hook up with producer Linda Perry (famous for helping stars such as Pink and Christina Aguilera) He recorded his first album there - Back To Bedlam.
His debut offering received a warm reception in America but on returning home to England things took an upward turn. Supporting Elton John and Katie Melua certainly helped but it was the release of his 'Beautiful' single that really set his career spiraling upwards. Written about his ex-girlfriend, the song has a resonance for almost everyone - who can't say they can't describe at least something as beautiful.
Essentially, a middle of the road performer he owes his style more to Paul Simon and James Taylor but probably has not got the talent to become just as famous as these two excellent performers.
Blunt was at the centre of controversy in 2005 when it was discovered his track Wisemen included an intro taken straight from "Pull Together" by legendary Liverpool band Shack.
In October 2005 it was announced James was dating Pussycat Dolls singer Jessica Sutta.
Mixed fortunes came Blunt's way in early 2006 when first he received the NME Award for worst album for his Back To Bedlam offering but in March he became the first British artist to reach number one in the US Billboard Charts since Elton John in 1997 with his insipid Beautiful.
Lyrics of James BluntThere must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you. (James facing up to facts on 'You're Beautiful')
Brothers lie in shallow graves.
Fathers lost without a trace.
A nation blind to their disgrace,
Since he's been here. (James in more serious mood on ' No Bravery')
